![]() ![]() ![]() According to Brian, the worm shortage is a combination of declining worm populations and a scarcity of diggers. I’ve pretty much offered to land a helicopter in his yard if I could get worms from him, but the local market in Maine is so strong that he never has extras. As a result of his reputation as THE quality worm supplier in Maine, he pretty much sells everything he gets before he gets it. Brian’s operation handles tens of thousands of quality bloods weekly and he is a PIA about quality worms. ![]() Apparently, the demand for bloodworms has far outstripped the available supply. Brian is the owner, and with 35 years of experience under his belt, when he tells you something, you’d be wise to shut up and listen. Dave Beebe owner of Lighthouse View Bait and Tackle posted yesterday … “Sheepscot River Bait of Woolwich, Maine. Long story short the suppliers can’t collect enough for the demand due to many issues. Mostly Spot and the like, but if fish are there and hungry, they sure seem to like it.There is a coast wide bloodworm shortage. In the fall I set up 2 berkley boxes that fit in the front of my vest or jacket depending on the weather and i am good to go.Īlexy I've had good luck with FishBites bloodworm while surf fishing. I have to say I am a real minimalist when I am surf fishing and can get by with a little waist "fanny pack" with all the tackle I will need. Since the Op is looking to carry less you can take a bag or 2 out with you and stuff it in your pocket and be set for a while. The difference with mullet was no difference using blood worms vs real and we had some very good flounder bites on bucktails with a strip of the clam as a teaser but with so much depending on how you work the bucktail i don't know if I could say it made a difference or not. We always caught more pomps with the fishbites than we did with real sand fleas. We used same rods same line and the same Joe Moore floro rigs and cast near each other. My son and I put them to the test for the last 3 years with the sand flea. ![]()
